Presented in excellent condition, the dial’s vivid color scheme, overall sport yet historical looks make this watch extremely appealing. Mechanically, the Skipper uses a modified version of the automatic caliber 15 movement, found in some Autavias of the period, most notably the rare 'exotic' dial versions. The original colour combination from the "Intrepid" has also been preserved, however a date window was added where the original version did not have one. The iconic faceted lugs, taken from the Carrera’s design features have been maintained thanks to a more modern "Glassbox" case which re-creates the vintage looks of a plexiglass. We don't want to take too much credit (or blame) for the skyrocketing prices, but the LE was definitely a factor. A homage but not a carbon copy, the present Hodinkee Skipper incorporates key favourite design elements of the original 7754. Priced at 5,900, the HODINKEE Limited Edition Skipper sold out quickly, and has been a strong performer in the secondary market, including a sale by Phillips at 25,200, in November 2020. Co-designed by HODINKEE it served to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emil Mosbacher’s victory at America’s Cup. The Heuer reference 7754 has served as inspiration for the limited edition of 125 example of the 2017 Heuer Carrera Skipper. The 1968 Heuer Skipper chronograph was a new model created solely to celebrate the victory of a brilliant yacht, and its builder and its skipper. ![]() In production for the next 10 years, with a succession of different cases either taken from the Carerra or Autavia, It is believed that around 20 examples of the reference 7754 were made. A year later, in 1968, Heuer launched the Carrera Skipper reference 7754, which is considered amongst collectors one of the rarest and most coveted chronography produced by Heuer. The red, white, and blue sub-dial is divided into five-minute sections, each indicating a period in the lead up to a regatta to allow yacht pilots to gain every second advantage possible. ![]() The history of the Heuer Skipper, or more famously known "Skipperera" commenced with the American skipper Emil Mosbacher on board of the "Intrepid" who whilst wearing a Heuer chronograph won the 20th edition of the America’s Cup in 1967. The Heuer Skipper, a fantastic tool watch produced and built for Regatta races, starring a large, colorful 15-minute counter for tracking the countdown start of a yacht race.
